Chamberlain and Morrow Join the Elims

Just what the title suggests, Joba Chamberlain and Brandon Morrow are now Eliminators at the expense of Dan Haren, George Sherrill, and Joey Devine. "This was trade was difficult for us until we look at the numbers. Since 2006 Haren's ERA has risen drastically in the second half of the seasons going from 3.52 to 4.91 in 2006 and 2.30 to 4.15 in 2007. We're noticing a trend here and are predicting more of the same in 2008. Sherrill started out the season hot and has tailed off and really has no future potential. Devine has potential, but has yet to show it on a consistent basis and with him on the DL he is a nothing player on the Elims. Joba and Morrow will help my team more than Haren and Sherrill. This trade really wasn't that difficult" said GM/Owner Matt Caskey. Rumor has it that Morrow will become the teams new closer with Chamberlain taking over for Haren as the team's ace.

haren gives you a better chance to win now. see how good he has down in BARB? long term potential is on your side, but for a title run, Haren helped you more

i disagree. morrow can pitch every couple of days as opposed to every fifth day. and he will help me way more than sherrill and devine was on the DL anyway. Chamberlain's stats are comperable to haren and the strikeouts are up so he at the very least will pitch similar. i shouldnt take a hit.

Yeah you will. Joba isn't ready as a starter yet, and Haren is one of the top 5 pitchers in baseball right now. I love Joba, but isn't ready to start in a rotation with too many walks and he is laboring through every start, hitting 100+ pitches after 4-5 innings. If he keeps this rate up, he will ware out too fast, and he has an injury history. I know all about Joba. For now and at least of half of 2009, Joba is a reliever as well as Morrow (who has been battling arm and back problems all season), thus two relievers for 2 and a star SP was a good trade for me. Yeah I love both, but Haren is of course a star right now and holds more value than Joba and Morrow together; may be offset when Morrow shows durability and Joba begins to become more of a starter than a reliever on the mound (still has trouble with off-speed pitches, laboring on the mound after 4 to 5, walks too many, will become an injury concern after 100 innings cause every start he has labored big time).

Yeah long term more value in the package i sent you; but what is long term? For this season, as well as the whole 2009, Haren still holds more value, as he is young and getting better every year, so may be hard to justify the trade (which would have helped you win now) till 2010. Heck we may not be hear that year lol.

And thats if Joba shows he can become a star starter; he is still in the developing stages.

look i know haren is a better sp than joba. but morrow pitching 4-5 days a week helps me more than haren once maybe twice a week and sherrill 4-5 days a week. Given that Morrow helps my bullpen so much the little loss of quality (which is still high) from haren to joba is not that great. Joba does have more strikeouts that innings pitched as a starter as well as a 2.81 ERA with opponents hitting a mere .245 against him.

well matt, you cannot in any way shape or form justify Joba being a better starter than Haren (about K's... Haren has the #1 walk to strikeout ratio than any other pitcher in BASEBALL: #1 in WHIP too (0.97); like I said, Joba is barely beginning is starting role with the Yankees, and he has much to learn and grow. I love his potential, but it may take him about 2010 to Impact BARB as a starter like Haren is or earliest second half 2009 in the majors... which well really means full help in again 2010 till he has a huge BARB impact as a starter. Other than that, he's a reliever value in BARB, as well as Morrow; where as Haren is tops in SP for years to come (don't have to wait; he is getting even better every year), Sherrill, dispite not pitching like he did last year, will not suffer staticstically after the second half cause after speaking with Hatfield, he said only rookies (like Bruce) will not differ really at all in performace after their seed is updated; thus Sherrill is still a shut down reliever till the end of the year and Devine, with his current stats, will pitch like Morrow is doing in the majors in BARB.

So yeah argument closed: also Haren is durable, will pitch 200 + innings, has the #1 K to BB ratio in baseball, top WHIP 0.97, doesn't labor in starts (JOBA averages about 100 pitches in 4 to 5 innings), and well yeah, is better across the board. Thus, Starters have more value than relievers (cause that's JOBA's true value currently in BARB) and its too hard to find starters like Haren.

Lets not forget, IF you use Joba as a starter, he will be using the Starting Stats, not a combine relieving and starter stats; thus you have to look at the difference, and it doesn't look great for BARB!

SO Morrow vs. Sherrill and Devine: Morrow is better than both (question mark though with Devine cause before DL stint; keep in mind Morrow has already been there this year; he was shut down), but two is better than one...

Thus... for now, I got the upper hand. You have future on your side, but Haren is now and future with a small salary and also is still getting better, thus haven't reached his peak (WOW!!!) with also Devine being now and future...

So really, how you would have gotten the upper hand can't be said or argued about until Joba becomes the type of ACE Haren is.
